Every student deserves to thrive
I believe all students, regardless of their differences, are entitled to a quality education. They have the right to feel included and are capable of achieving many things. A student's background should never determine their potential for success. My commitment is to ensure every student has the support and environment they need to learn and succeed.
My personal journey with diversity
Growing up, I experienced many different classroom environments. I know what it's like to be the only black person in a classroom and to feel out of place. However, I also know what it's like to be treated with respect, just like everyone else. These experiences have shaped my deep understanding of what it truly takes to foster diversity and inclusion effectively.
Creating a welcoming classroom for all
During my student teaching, I had a student who didn't speak English well, knowing only a few words from his ESL teacher and classmates. I made it a priority to ensure he knew my name and felt welcomed in the class. More importantly, I adapted activities so he could still participate meaningfully with his peers, demonstrating that every student can engage and thrive.
